Emerging news

Investigative details of an August 30 shooting on the Las Vegas Strip that mostly went under local news’ radars have revealed a private security guard is responsible, and that he shot a tourist.

Securitas officer Deangelo Sneed, 20, was named by 8 News Now Investigators on Tuesday as the shooter.

Las Vegas Locally took to X to state that Securitas guards aren’t allowed firearms and that Sneed also didn’t have a concealed carry permit:

Sneed faces charges including lack of concealed firearm permit and “use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm.”

Tourist trouble

According to reports, the incident came just after midnight near a bar at the Grand Bazaar Shops near Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas resorts.

Sneed allegedly got into an argument with the tourist from Chicago, with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department citing CCTV footage of the pair fighting.

stomped and punched him”

In an LVMPD interview, Sneed said multiple individuals “stomped and punched him” and that he “shot the [victim] to stop him.”

Stop him Sneed did, with a bullet in the Chicagoan’s hip. According to 8 News, Metro officers arrested Sneed near the scene and found a gun in his car.

The security officer told the LVMPD that the gun belonged to his brother who bought it online.

Decision backfires

Sneed, who faces a preliminary hearing in early December, is currently out on bail with an order to wear an ankle device and “not possess any weapons and stay out of trouble.”

According to reports, despite having no formal training in its use, Sneed decided to “bring his firearm to work” that night.

job is to “talk and ask”

News reports cited a fellow employee of Sneed’s as stating no security officers in the Grand Bazaar area are armed and that their job is to “talk and ask.”
