Penn Entertainment has welcomed a major gain in revenue for its Hollywood Casino in Illinois since relocating the former riverboat operation inland to Joliet.Â
Penn opened its $185m Hollywood Casino Joliet on August 11 with September the start of the operation’s first full month in business.Â
the new Joliet retail casino drew in $11.2m in adjusted gross revenue
According to the Illinois Gaming Control Board (IGCB), the new Joliet retail casino drew in $11.2m in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) for September, which represents almost twice what it generated as a riverboat casino in the same month last year.
While the $11.2m matches what Hollywood Joliet’s new casino made for its truncated August debut month, it marks a steady return after all the grand opening promotional activity. Â
Hollywood’s riverboat makeover has also seen its September revenue boost place it fourth among all Illinois casinos for the month. Added to the September revenue of state retail sister, Hollywood Casino Aurora, the Penn pair raked in $19.1m in AGR for the month.Â
Rivers Casino continues to boss the Illinois retail space with $41m AGR for September. Penn’s double act, however, has already overtaken Bally’s and Harrah’s two casinos and DraftKings’ one, who posted AGRs of $16.2m, $12.4m, and $6.6m, respectively, for the month gone by.Â
While online casinos have yet to be regulated in Illinois, Penn Interactive’s Hollywood Casino is a leading brand in iGaming-legal states.Â
