Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed former Rajasthan wicketkeeper-batsman Dishant Yagnik as their fielding coach for IPL 2026. He played 25 IPL matches and spent nearly a decade as Rajasthan Royals’ fielding coach.
Yagnik joins a restructured coaching team led by Abhishek Nayar with support from Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Tim Southee, and Andre Russell. His experience in fielding is expected to strengthen KKR’s performance this season.
KKR’s Big Coaching Boost With Dishant Yagnik
Kolkata Knight Riders have taken another big step in their preparation for the Indian Premier League 2026 by bringing in Dishant Yagnik as their new fielding coach. The three-time IPL champions announced the move in January as part of a wide reshuffle in their backroom staff.
This appointment reflects how seriously the franchise is thinking about every detail as it aims for success in the upcoming season, which runs from late March through May.
Yagnik may not make headlines as easily as a star batter or bowler, yet fielding is one of the aspects of the game where it only takes a small step to change the fate of games. Fielding in T20 cricket saves vital runs, places a strain on hitters and even wins tight matches.
The management at KKR is clearly optimistic that empowering this section will provide the team with an actual advantage, particularly with a challenging league characterized by volatile batting lineups.
This action is also accompanied by a renewed source of coaches that present a blend of global experience and local knowledge. The inclusion of Yagnik into this circle brings another specialist voice with the sole aim of refining fielding talents and demonstrates the level of detail to which KKR has now developed.
From Player to Fielding Mentor
Dishant Yagnik began his career in the sport as a wicketkeeper and left-handed batter with the Rajasthan domestic cricket team in India. He played 50 first-class matches, 41 List A matches and also 25 IPL matches between 2011 and 2014 with Rajasthan Royals before he retired as a player.
Yagnik, after leaving the playing field, took up coaching and very soon won a reputation for being a patient and methodical coach who also had a great focus on fielding. For almost a decade, between 2018 and 2025, he was the fielding coach for Rajasthan Royals, in which role he improved agility, catching efficiency, and throwing accuracy and also raised the bar for overall athletic performance. His long-term association is proof that he earned respect in the cricketing community for his blend of technical knowledge with practical work.
What makes Yagnik a great fit for his role at KKR is his history as a wicketkeeper. That experience brings to the table a unique point of view on anticipation, reflex development, and positioning, especially for infielders and keepers who must read the ball and react quickly under pressure. His hands-on experience from the field, he now uses to mentor others.

A Strong Coaching Lineup for IPL 2026
Yagnik’s arrival completes a very experienced and diverse coaching team at KKR for IPL 2026. Abhishek Nayar heads the setup as an overall strategy and team-preparation coach. On his side are Dwayne Bravo as mentor, Shane Watson as assistant coach, Tim Southee as bowling coach, and Andre Russell in a new role of power coach, who specializes in power hitting and finishing skills.
Every coach has a different combination of experience playing professionally at a high level in international and franchise cricket, and among them all, the important areas of performance are taken into account.
This picture is now filled in with Yagnik playing in the field so that the team also excels in ground fielding, catching and reaction work. The role of fielding as a critical component in winning T20 matches is becoming a commonly discussed topic as acute fielding can potentially save up to 10 or 15 runs per match, which can mean the difference between winning and defeat.
To KKR fans, this coaching staff represents a strong indicator that the franchise is determined to play hard in 2026. KKR might be a more well-rounded team with the balance of experienced international names and coaches who know the IPL environment.
KKR are likely to be well-equipped with Dishant Yagnik on board and a robust coaching team in place, which will take the team into IPL 2026. The event will start on 26 March, and all sponsorship arrangements are already in place.
