The newly appointed test captain of India, Shubman Gill, is proving his worth in the ongoing test series against England as a part of the World Test Championship for the 2025/27 cycle with his 3 centuries and strategies in just four innings.
On the day of the second test match, Shubman Gill’s captaincy was the highlight since he and Mohammed Siraj were seen indulging in a conversation over a field placement, urging the fielder to place differently than that of Leeds, which later turned out to be a point-on tactic by the Indian captain.
Shubman Gill’s Tactical Brilliance
Coming into day 4 of the second test of the Anderson-Tendulkar test series between India and England, India has been dominating the entire four days as the host finds themselves in trouble chasing a target before the stumps are called.
On Day 4 of the test match, India’s Mohammed Siraj provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Zak Crawley for a seven-ball duck. However, in the clip released by Star Sports, Shubman Gill’s captaincy was praised by the fans as he and Siraj were seen talking about the field placement.
Siraj was more into having a different field placement. He was seen saying, “Nahi, main udhar ki baat kar raha hu. Udhar bhi hai (I was talking about that place. There’s a fielder there as well).”
Meanwhile, Gill urged Siraj to go with a normal delivery and told him that the catch would be on the offside. In counter to Siraj, Gill said, “There will be a catch. He got out in the same way last time. Just listen to me. This wicket is different from that in Leeds. Go with the normal delivery.”
Siraj then bowled an out-swinging delivery outside the off-stump to Crawley, which insisted the England batter play the shot and ended up giving an easy catch into the hands of Sai Sudharsan.

[REPORT] What to Expect on the Final Day of the Second Test?
The accurate Shubman Gill’s captaincy might turn out to be good since India is just an inch away from winning. Before the stumps were called on day 4 of the match in the Anderson-Tendulkar test series, England scored 72 with a loss of 3 wickets.
They lost both openers, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, quickly, as Duckett was dismissed at 25 runs off 15 balls, while Crawley was dismissed at zero runs. Similarly, the outstanding and accurate bowling of Akash Deep has been effective in this test match, as he has already picked up 2 wickets in the second innings.
The absence of Jasprit Bumrah is not seen since Akash Deep has been bowling really well in this match.
Coming into day 5 of the Anderson-Tendulkar test series, England now needs a massive 536 runs with seven wickets remaining. Their consistent player, Joe Root, has also been dismissed at six runs, so the host looks in trouble.
Day 5 might deliver a promising match since England will be looking to win the game by hook or crook, but if India is able to take early wickets, then the target for England would be to save their wickets and draw the match.
The game is still 50/50, as it cannot yet be decided who can really edge against the other in such tricky pitch conditions.
