The Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has released its Q3 2025 report, showing that the market recorded almost zero overall growth.
The main pressure came from a significant decline in state-run lotteries, while the online sector continued to expand and helped offset the drop in land-based operations. The iGN editorial team highlights the following key data:
- Total GGR of licensed operators reached €610 million, representing a 0.5% increase year-on-year and a 4.4% decrease quarter-on-quarter.
- The online segment accounted for 67% of the country’s total GGR.
- Online casinos and sports betting generated €410 million, up 3.5% YoY but down 2.7% QoQ.
- “Svenska Spel,” including state lotteries and gaming machines, reported €115 million, marking a 7.2% YoY decline and an 11.2% QoQ drop.
- Charitable lotteries produced €75 million, showing 0.5% annual growth but a 2.8% quarterly decrease.
- Land-based commercial casinos generated €6.1 million, up 3.1% YoY and 4.7% QoQ.
- Charitable bingo remained stable year-on-year at €4.4 million, with a 2% decline quarter-on-quarter.
The slowdown in overall growth is primarily attributed to seasonal weakness in state lotteries, which fell by 11% compared to the previous quarter following an unusually strong Q2. In contrast, online casino and betting remained resilient, maintaining an annual growth rate of 3.5% despite quarterly fluctuations.
For the full year 2024, Sweden’s licensed operators generated €2.53 billion in total GGR.
